Proofreading is the last step in the publishing process. This is a human version of your word processor spell check and grammar check—humans still do it better!
We look for errors in typesetting including misspelt or repeated words, errors in font type or size, accidental gibberish and grammatical errors.
We’ll also check the boring stuff like page numbers, headings, the index, cross-references and how the text actually looks on the page or screen (for rivers of white space and widows and orphans, if you’re down with the lingo).
Proofreading shouldn’t replace a copy edit or substantive edit. We’ll tell you if we think your document would benefit from more TLC but the decision still rests with you.
